The Village of Indiantown Code Compliance Division works with residents, businesses, and property owners to maintain safe, clean, and attractive neighborhoods. Our goal is to educate, assist, and encourage voluntary compliance while helping preserve the quality of life throughout our community.
Browse the topics below to learn about some of the Village's most common code requirements.
(Sec. 67.201. - Nuisances declared)
It is a violation of Village Code to allow grass or weeds to exceed 10 inches in height. Property owners are responsible for regularly maintaining grass, weeds, bushes, trees, and other landscaping. Excessive or untended vegetation that extends into the public right-of-way, reduces visibility for drivers or pedestrians, interferes with stormwater drainage, or creates a public health or safety concern is prohibited and may be declared a public nuisance.
(Sec. 91.32 - Abandoned, salvage or junked property prohibited generally)
The storage of wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, or inoperable vehicles is prohibited. A vehicle may be considered inoperable if it is missing wheels, has flat tires, or displays an expired license plate or registration.
(Sec. 3-5.5 โ Outdoor Storage)
It is a violation of Village Code to allow the outdoor accumulation of junk, garbage, construction debris, yard waste, refuse, discarded materials, or unused equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, furniture, appliances, tires, containers, and similar items that are not being properly stored or used.
(Sec. 115.4 - Obstructing sidewalk and bicycle paths prohibited)
No person shall place, or allow the placement of, any object, material, debris, or vegetation on, across, or above a public sidewalk or bicycle path in a manner that obstructs or interferes with pedestrian or bicycle traffic. Sidewalks and bicycle paths must remain clear and accessible for public use.
Building permits are required for most interior and exterior improvements. This may include remodeling projects, fences, windows, shutters, doors, sheds, additions, and other construction activities. Property owners should contact the Village before beginning work to determine whether a permit is required.
(Sec. 3-5.2. - Animals and livestock)
The keeping of livestock is permitted only within the Rural Residential (RR) zoning district. The keeping of fowl (such as chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and similar birds) is also permitted only within the Rural Residential zoning district. Dogs and cats are permitted on residential properties; however, no more than five (5) adult dogs and cats, in any combination, may be kept on a residential parcel.
Please note that certain Planned Unit Developments (PUDs) may be subject to additional restrictions regarding the keeping of animals. To ensure your property complies with all applicable zoning regulations and community requirements, please contact the Village of Indiantown Community and Economic Development Department for additional information.
(Sec. 21.121. - Window, skylight and door frames)
For safety reasons, all windows must remain operable and capable of being opened in an emergency. Hurricane shutters and protective boards are intended for temporary storm protection and should be removed after the threat of severe weather has passed. Permanently covered windows may restrict emergency escape routes and create a life-safety hazard for occupants and emergency responders.
(Sec. 3-4.7 - Fences, walls and hedges)
A permit is required before constructing any fence or wall. All fences and walls must be built using approved building materials and kept in good condition. Fence posts that come into contact with the ground must be made of materials that resist decay, corrosion, and termite damage. Wooden fence posts must be pressure-treated to provide long-term strength, durability, and protection from the elements.
(Sec. 3-5.8. - Storage of recreational vehicles (RVs) and boats)
The storage of recreational vehicles (RVs) and boats is permitted only in accordance with the requirements of Section 3-5.8 of the Village of Indiantown Municipal Code. On single-family and two-family residential properties, the storage of one (1) RV and one (1) boat is generally permitted, provided all applicable regulations are met. RVs and boats must be stored in compliance with Village Code requirements regarding location, use, and placement on the property. Property owners are encouraged to review the applicable regulations or contact the Village for additional guidance before storing an RV or boat on their property.
(Sec. 3-7.16. - Peddlers and itinerant merchants)
Before selling goods or services within the Village, peddlers and itinerant merchants must obtain approval from both the property owner and the Village of Indiantown. Vendors may not set up or operate on private property without the property owner's permission, and all required Village registration and permitting requirements must be completed and approved before any sales activity begins.
